1889 Invincible

In the early 1990s the cycle designer Mike Burrows visited Coventry Transport Museum, saw this bicycle and took inspiration for his Lotus Monocoque bike on which Chris Boardman won an Olympic gold medal in 1992.

The ‘Invincible’ uses a single fork on both wheels - Mike Burrows recognized its aerodynamic potential and adapted the idea for what was to become the famous Lotus bike.
