Coventry Transport Museum makes the perfect learning environment for school or family visits.

Past Project - Community Films

The new exhibitions at Coventry Transport Museum come alive with a wealth of films and multimedia interactives. Local people have taken part in exciting media projects to create some of these films and have learned a lot of new skills in the process.

Herbert Media worked with young people with learning difficulties and disabilities to make two films exploring the Coventry motor industry from the 1940s to the 1970s. Participants interviewed older people with memories of working in the industry, and investigated archive collections to learn more about the city’s transport history. They received training in animation, photo manipulation and the film making process from planning through to completion. The work done through this project informed the finished films in the exhibitions and has helped the young people to achieve qualifications which should improve their future job prospects.

Local community media specialists Metal Dog Media brought together a group of people of different ages and backgrounds to create a lively film which forms another part of the new displays. Museum visitors can get into a real Coventry-built taxi and be taken on a virtual guided tour of the city, exploring sites linked with local transport history. Project participants learned interviewing and film making techniques to capture memories of motor manufacturing in Coventry, both good and bad. The project has helped to build understanding between different generations as well as developing team building and technical skills.
