A Model from Memory

03 May 2017

In our collection, we have a very special item - a model made from memory.

In the year 2000 David Robinson (pictured below with his son Ciaran) was commissioned by the museum to build a small model of a single decker Maudslay bus. Inspired by the museum’s own collection David got to work creating a model for this ENTA (NVQ) training scheme.

David’s NVQ workshop was not built to equip wheelchair users. So with no model plans, but armed with creative flair, a good memory and the ability to adapt his workshop surroundings David soldiered on to create the model we have in our collection today.

David’s skill and natural talent did not stop there, and over the years he has put his skills to good use, creating a model motorcycle and a Rolls Royce. He's looking forward to his forthcoming project – a Jaguar.
