Coventry Museums and Schools Project

Coventry Transport Museum has been working on a joint initiative with the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and the V&A in London over the last 12 months to help more school pupils to visit the museums on a regular basis. Using funding from the Department for Education, through Arts Council England, local schools can engage with the museums through subsidised visits, including transport bursaries. So far over 2000 primary school pupils have visited the museums through this initiative, which is available until March 2015. Click here to find out more about what’s on offer.

As well new opportunities for primary schools, we are also working with one secondary school per term to provide opportunities for the students to work to real-world briefs. For this term’s project a group of GCSE students from Foxford Community School have been given the challenge of designing innovative ideas for shared transport, which meets the needs of Coventry users in the future. The students are working with Jaguar Land Rover and Coventry University, as well as the Transport Museum, the Herbert and the V&A. If you’d like to see their designs, they will be on display at the Herbert from 24th March to 4th April.
