Clocking On
A Collection of Memories

Clocking On is a collection of memories of the lives of people involved in the motor manufacturing industries. Archive images and oral history from Culture Coventry’s extensive collection have been brought together to produce a unique reminiscence book that can be enjoyed by everyone, but particularly by older people who have difficulties with concentration or memory.

The book was created as part of the major redevelopment of the Coventry Transport Museum and many of the memories included have been taken from conversations between Media students from Barr’s Hill School and local residents who worked in the motor industries. Thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund the museum was able to add to its extensive oral history collections by training the students to collect interviews that were included in the new gallery displays and in this book. Clocking On was produced with help from Coventry History Centre and Helen Bate of www.picturestoshare.co.uk who specialise in creating books for people with dementia that make communication easier and encourage reminiscence.

The book is now on sale in Transport Museum and Herbert Art Gallery & Museum shop (£10)
