Behind the Scenes: Transport Treasures Straight from the Stores
The Coventry Transport Museum holds the world’s largest public collection of British vehicles, so big that not all of it can be on display at one time. Behind The Scenes enables visitors to see key objects from our stores and reserve collections, rarely seen in the public domain.
The museum can trace its origin to the 1930s with the donation to the city of the Bartleet cycle collection. In 1980, the collection grew so large that a new museum was created. In 2001, the Museum of British Road Transport became Coventry Transport Museum which now proudly showcases the city’s transport legacy through its vehicle manufacture, design and innovation.
Come along and see the technicolour rickshaw cycle, the turbo Talbot, and the extremely popular Barbie Jaguar, amongst many other treasures not usually on display.
Put on your imaginary dust suit and step behind the scenes to reveal what happens out of sight. Learn the history of objects, discover their journey into the collection and learn more about their current condition.
If you’re really lucky you may even witness our team at work, conserving our objects right in front of you.
We bring you Behind the Scenes and invite you to discover these hidden treasures.
