Our Tourism Superstar!

11 February 2013

We are thrilled to let you know that Coriena Brierley,  our Retail & Reception Manager, has been announced as a finalist in VisitEngland’s national Tourism Superstar 2013 award - and she needs your vote to help her win the title!

The award recognises the dedication and passion of those working in the tourism industry, and is awarded to an individual who goes above and beyond the call of duty, to ensure that visitors to England have a priceless experience.

This year, the award focuses on employees at English visitor attractions, and after nominations were received from throughout the country, ten finalists were selected and will now face a public vote to choose the eventual winner.

Coventry Transport Museum plays a vital role in the city’s tourism economy, welcoming over 420,000 visitors from around the UK and abroad each year, and as Retail and Reception Manager, Coriena is one of the first people who visitors meet when they arrive at the Museum.

As well as providing a warm welcome to all visitors and being a fount of all knowledge about the Museum itself, Coriena is also qualified as a Green Badge City Guide, meaning that she is an expert in Coventry’s unique history, and is able to talk to all kinds of visitors about the city’s fascinating story, recommending other attractions and areas to visit, to enhance tourists’ experiences whilst they are in the region.

Please vote for Coriena - you could win a weekend in Brighton!

To vote, simply visit www.mirroronline.co.uk/tourismsuperstar, where you can vote for Coriena to win.

Everyone who votes will be entered into a prize draw to win a weekend break for two in Brighton, including dinner, attractions passes and tickets to a show. The voting will be open until 8th March, and the winning Tourism Superstar will be announced during English Tourism Week 2013 (16-24 March).

Coriena said:
“I am beyond excited to have made it into the top ten for the Tourism Superstar award – I have worked at the Museum for 20 years, and am so proud to be part of such an amazing team welcoming every type of visitor into the Museum to enjoy the collection, and take part in the wide range of activities we offer here.  Not to mention helping them to pick out the perfect gift or souvenir in the Museum’s gift and nostalgia shop Past & Presents!

Of course I would absolutely love to win the final award, and in doing so, play my part in putting Coventry firmly on the map as a brilliant destination for tourists.  So if you’re proud of Coventry and the Transport Museum, please do take a moment to vote for me as Tourism Superstar 2013 – thank you in advance.”

Councillor Ed Ruane, Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure at Coventry City Council said:
“It’s great news that Coriena has been selected for such a high profile award supported by VisitEngland, the UK’s leading tourist body. Being nominated for such a prestigious award shows how highly Coriena is thought of in the industry and is also testament to the great customer care standards offered by the museum.
The Transport Museum has become one of the UK’s leading tourist attractions and we’re proud that Coventry hosts such a well-loved venue which attracts many many thousands of visitors to the city.
I’d encourage everyone who knows Coriena, and loves the Transport Museum, to get online and register their vote to show their support to her, the venue and the city of Coventry.  Good luck Coriena.”
