Nuneaton Primary School Wins All-Expenses-Paid Trip To London Museum

18 July 2013

Pupils from Years 5 and 6 at All Saints CE Primary School, Nuneaton, enjoyed an all-expenses-paid trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London earlier this month, courtesy of a joint competition run by Coventry Transport Museum and the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.

The class visited the V&A on 1st July for a Day at the Great Exhibition where they explored the incredible items on display and created their own amazing inventions.

The visit came about after the school took part in a new Arts Council funded project at Coventry Transport Museum and the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.  Classes that use a special £5 promotional offer to book three educational sessions across the two museums throughout the year, are entered into an annual competition to win a visit to the V&A.  The class from All Saints were the first winners of the competition, which will run for the next two academic years.

The teachers at All Saints Primary School said:
“We had a fantastic time at the V&A. The whole day was such a wonderful experience for the children, from the exciting activities at the museum, to simply travelling to London, as this was the first time many of the children had visited the capital. The type of activities children could engage in, such as the design and making activity, were practical and fun.  Children have been really keen to talk about and continue with this work back in school. We really value visits to museums to support our children to develop a lifelong passion for culture, and this has been a fantastic opportunity to reinforce that.”

Teachers and parents who would like to find out more about this Arts Council funded project, which also offers transport bursaries of up to £350 per year group to help Primary schools visit museums more often, can read more about it here.
