West End star backs Coventry Transport Museum and care home project

16 December 2016

West End star Dave Willetts is supporting a joint project between The Willows care home and Culture Coventry, the trust that manages Coventry Transport Museum.  The care home in central Coventry realises that it is not possible to bring all their residents to the museum, so they have been working with Stacey Bains of Culture Coventry to bring the museum to residents.

The Willows, in association with Culture Coventry, recently reproduced a series of photos from the museum to display in the home including images ranging from Coventry Market to a visit from the Queen Mother and George VI.  However, the next stage of the project, a wrap-around floor-to-ceiling mural of the old Coventry precinct, was proving to be quite expensive.

Dave Willetts, who celebrates 25 years playing leading roles in musicals including Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera and Cats to name but a few, is supporting The Willows with their fund-raising and has kindly made the first donation himself to get the ball rolling.

Stacey Bains from Culture Coventry said “The project aims to support the health and well-being of residents at The Willows and we fully support their fund-raising efforts.  The idea is to whisk residents with dementia back to days gone by and ultimately slowdown the onset of dementia.”

The Willows Home Manager Bev Jones commented: “We really appreciate the support from Dave Willetts and Culture Coventry to jump-start our fundraising for phase two of the project.  The photos have bought a new energy to the home and created a talking point between the residents, staff and families. It keeps residents active both physically and mentally.”

If you would like to make a donation to support the project, please call Culture Coventry on 02476 234270.
