Mini Explorer Trail & Play Boxes

Our play boxes and explorer trails will add an extra layer of interactive family fun to your visit!

Aimed at ages 1 – 5

We have introduced a range of carefully developed playful activities for you and your little ones to get involved in while you are visiting us. 

Available every day at reception is an early years trail activity, which includes playing with shapes, finding vehicles, spotting numbers and letters, all while you explore the museum.

You can also pick up one of our popular Mini Museum Engineers Play Boxes. Our play boxes come as ride-on suitcases, perfect for when little legs get tired from walking around the museum. Each play box includes a selection of play objects and prompts for you to use as you explore the our galleries. The content of the boxes will vary and is updated regularly. 

All of our Engineer Explorer activities are free to loan from our welcome desk. Just ask for one activity to use throughout your visit and then return for other families to enjoy.

Please be aware that these activities are very popular and loans are subject to availability. Trails and play boxes will be given out on a first come, first served basis. You might spot some play boxes or trails at Box Office that are not in use but are unable to be handed out at your time of requesting them. This means that they are on a sanitising break where our museum team carefully cleans them, so the boxes are ready to be used and played with again.
