Lady Penny revisits transformed sites at the Old Grammar School and Coventry Transport Museum

11 July 2017

Lady Penny Cobham

Last week, Lady Penny Cobham visited Coventry Transport Museum and The Old Grammar School for a tour of the refurbished buildings. Lady Penny previously visited the two sites back in early 2015 when the refurbishment process was well underway and much of the buildings covered in dustsheets, with hard hats most definitely a requirement. Visiting this time, she was particularly taken with the bicycle collection and interested in the Royal cars especially Queen Mary’s Daimler.

She was impressed with the changes since her last visit, commenting as she visited The Old Grammar School, "Wow, what a transformation. It is a most beautiful building. The last time I was here, I had to wear wellingtons and took great care as to where I stepped. What an achievement!”

Whilst she was here Lady Penny pledged her support to the city’s bid to be the UK City of Culture in 2021.

Lady Penny has recently stepped down as Chair of Visit England, in order to take up her new role as the Chair of the 5% Club, working with corporate companies and businesses in the UK to introduce or expand on their respective apprenticeship programmes so they have 5% of their work force as apprentices.
