Description

An excitingly theatrical and chilling horror story for our time. In the hours before a live TV debate, a young activist and a spokesperson for the ruling party meet in an isolated house in a forest. These political, ideological and religious adversaries – brought together by a journalist mutual friend – must sit and wait – fearful of the coming conflict. The forest is haunted by the spectre of a wild leopard, once caged within the crumbling house but now free to roam and terrorise at will – but only some can see the beast and hear him roar. As crowds gather demanding to attend the debate, mounting paranoia and horror collide in an explosive unravelling of political convictions and personal histories. This excitingly theatrical and chilling horror story for our time shows the dangers of growing populism, unbridled social media and how fear can be manufactured and manipulated to manifest itself in real and violent ways. Deepika Arwind is a celebrated international playwright from Bangalore whose work has been presented across Europe and India, and in the USA. Kali Theatre presents thought provoking new plays by women writers with a South Asian background which reflect and comment on our lives today. Their award-winning productions have won rave reviews, sell out performances and inspired audiences throughout the UK and beyond.

Venue: Belgrade Theatre

In our landmark building, across the region, the UK and online, we will use theatre to entertain, inspire, share the city’s stories, uncover hidden histories and unleash the creativity in our communities. The Belgrade is the largest professional theatre in Coventry and so we act as both the city and region’s commercial and producing theatre. We are also highly respected for our ground-breaking community and education initiatives. In January 2022 the Belgrade welcomed two new leaders – Laura Elliot as Chief Executive and Corey Campbell as Creative Director.
