World-class collection in a World-class museum

Workdays and Holidays

Coventry’s historic service vehicles tell us how people lived, how they worked and what they did in their spare time. Take for example our collection of delivery vehicles, which includes a 1931 Singer van, a horse-drawn refuse cart, a decorator’s cart, a baker’s cart and delivery bicycles used by the post office and local grocery and butcher’s shops. More official vehicles include our 1963 Commer police mobile incident control room, which would have been a common sight at incidents and local events such as the Royal Show and Town and Country festival.

The Fleetline bus on display was the last type of bus made by Daimler. The museum acquired it in 1986, and the following year Coventry Football Club made history by winning the FA Cup for the very first time.

A proud city and thousands of jubilant fans quickly began planning a celebration parade, and the museum played its part by providing the Daimler Fleetline to carry the victorious players.
