Move and Play this Summer

02 July 2019

An exciting new exhibition at Coventry Transport Museum will get visitors moving this summer

Move and Play is an immersive and interactive exhibition that gets people of all ages testing their senses, balance and fitness - from being a virtual goalkeeper, to taking a tightrope walk above a major city.

Visitors can test the accuracy and power of their football kicks, their running speed, their hand-eye co-ordination and find out which animal they weigh the same as.

There’s even the chance to use the air generated from bouncing on your bottom to be victorious in a new take on blow football.
The exhibition, which was created by Heureka Overseas Productions – a division of the Finnish Science Centre – is making its debut in the UK having attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors during stints in Bangkok and Hong Kong, as well as Germany and the Netherlands.

It has been made possible through support from the European City of Sport 2019, Arts Council England and Coventry and Warwickshire Year of Wellbeing and is free to all Coventry residents when they sign up for a Go CV card.

Paul Breed, Chief Executive of Culture Coventry – the charity that runs Coventry Transport Museum, said Move and Play and the development of the attraction was part of a wider drive to improve the city’s draw as a destination for families.
He said: “The exhibition is intended to inspire visitors of all ages to move, play and have fun and our team have worked tirelessly to bring the exhibition to the UK for the first time.

“Move and Play signals a key milestone within the development of the programming at the museum as we look to bring a new style of more immersive and interactive exhibitions to the attraction.

“It is also of special relevance to the close working partnership between Culture Coventry and CV Life, in a year where Coventry is the UK’s European City of Sport and leading up to the UK City of Culture 2021 and the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
“Exhibitions such as Move and Play will help to draw the people of Coventry into the city centre for a whole day, especially when you couple it with the opening of The Wave. It will also play a key part in attracting visitors from all over the region and beyond as people start to plan a day out in Coventry city centre for the whole family.”

He added: “It was great to see families playing and interacting together during the launch event and we are excited to see this continue throughout the summer.

“There are so many activities to have a go at and they are all designed to get you active, moving and, most importantly, smiling.”
Move and Play will run until November 10, 2019. If you are a Coventry resident make sure you sign up to your GoCV card to enable you to get free entry. For more information go to www.go-cv.co.uk
