A world exclusive exhibition which celebrates flight, is set for departure this month.

09 October 2020

Taking Flight opened at Coventry Transport Museum in January and was set to close in June - but its stay was extended until November 1 after the Coronavirus crisis forced the venue to close.

The exhibition follows the Museum’s principles to provide immersive science and engineering-based experiences for all ages and teaches visitors about the history and mechanics of aviation – with many objects on loan from Midlands Air Museum.

As well as seeing examples of aviation, visitors can also dream up and design their own flying machines which are brought to life in an immersive landscape.

Ruark Jon-Stevens, Marketing and Communications Manager of Culture Coventry, said: “Taking Flight opened in January and there was a lot of excitement because it reflected the step change in the types of interactive experiences we are bringing to Coventry Transport Museum.

“Visitors of all ages love designing their own flying machines and watching them soar across the sky on our giant interactive wall or learning about the history of flight through our touch activated wall.

“Of course, when we went into lockdown, Coventry Transport Museum closed, so we decided to extend Taking Flight so as many people as possible could enjoy and experience it.

“Since reopening, we’ve taken a range of measures to ensure that all of the interactive elements are fully Covid-19 secure and, we’ve had great feedback that visitors and staff feel safe.

“With half-term coming up, it’s a great final chance to come and enjoy Taking Flight before it finally takes off from Coventry Transport Museum on November 1.”

Taking Flight has been created by TECH:SQUAD and Firecatcher in partnership with Coventry Transport Museum.
